Fractured Pointe

Ava Young, Sasha Taylor and Archie Monroe don’t have much in life, but what they do have is talent. For the three dancers, clawing their way to success in the dance world is near impossible when there are forever overshadowed by rival, elite dance studio; Studio Spotlight. That is all until one night of twisted fate when morbid news breaks through the city: Studio Spotlight’s three star ballerinas have been discovered dead in their practise room just weeks before their performance of the Danse Macarbe Ballet. Suicide pact is suspected, murder probable, but all that is certain is replacements are needed immediately.

Ava, Sasha and Archie are suddenly plunged into a world of glamour and opportunity they only ever dreamed of as they dance alongside the privileged students of Studio Spotlight. However, pressure to meet the expected perfection escalates and it isn’t long until the wonder fades and sinister happenings threaten to fracture their friendship, sanity and talent. As the show creeps closer, and the truth behind the three untimely deaths begins to emerge, the three dancers are left wondering whether success is worth the sacrifice.

Fractured Pointe tells the story of friendship and devotion as well as highlighting the inequalities in the performance industry and the dangers of desire.

What would you sacrifice for perfection?

Ava Young’s mother worked three jobs; one to cover the rent, one to live off, and the third to pay for Ava’s dance lessons. Her whole life they struggled to afford her dance kits and dance shoes but her passion and devotion kept her persevering to pursue her dreams. Since she was little, her talent was undeniable, but it wasn't long until she outgrew what the local dance classes had to offer and was left struggling to find a place to train. There was always Studio Spotlight, but she and her mother could never afford the fees. So when the tragic events granted her the opportunity to be a part of Spotlight, she promised herself nothing - and nobody - would stand in her way.

Is it all in your head?

Sasha Taylor grew up in a neighbourhood where no one ever made it that far in life, but she was different. She wanted out. She was never felt inspired at school, so she channelled her efforts into performance. It was beyond doubt that Sasha was one of the most naturally gifted dancers the town had ever seen. However, she soon realised talent only gets you so far, and that diverse castings were few and far between. It appeared fate had for once been in her favour when she was selected to join the prestigious Studio Spotlight, but it wasn't long until she realised the real struggle had only just begun. Now she had to compete against the abundance of wealthy and prim ballerinas and she decided she would do anything to become the perfect dancer.

Is the success worth the sacrifice?

Archie Monroe lost both his parents in a car crash when he was five years old, leaving him growing up with foster family after foster family - so many that he began to use count. Throughout his whirlwind childhood, the one thing that kept him grounded was his love for dance; a hobby he started to channel his emotions that soon turned into the centre of his life. In the studio, he was at peace, however at home his foster families were never so accommodating. They never believed dance was for boys and never accepted his talents. Archie knew the only way to escape the torment was to leave home, so he trained harder in hopes of getting a college dance scholarship. When the news broke that Studio Spotlight were looking for new dancers to join their cast, Archie realised he was willing to leave everything from his life behind to be in for a shot at making it.
